Best Denki Takes the Charity Message Closer to Home

Best Denki is not just about hardware; it is also about building ‘heartware’. With an impressive track record in the retail scene as Singapore’s biggest electronics and electrical retailer with revenues of $250 million, the company is already making headway into the community scene – with a commitment to help the less fortunate.

From May to September 2005, the company, in partnership with TOUCH Community Services (TCS), organised six programmes for the clients of TOUCH Home Care (THC), TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (TCIL), TOUCH Thinkers Club and TOUCH Children’s Club under its training programme dubbed I CARE.

“This year, we have taken I CARE a step further by doing our part for the community. We view this as an integral part of our training programme. Apart from training our staff on product knowledge and excellent customer service, we also want to groom them – to become caring and socially responsible members of society,” said Mr Lim Meng Huat, Assistant Human Resource Manager. “With greater empathy and compassion, our human resource capability can be further strengthened. This will translate into a higher level of customer service as our staff will learn to become better listeners and be more attuned to the needs of customers.”

The community projects with TCS involved about 50 staff from Best Denki who took 40 clients for a trip to the Singapore Mint, an outing to the East Coast Park followed by lunch on 12 May. About 20 frail elderly from THC also had a dose of goodwill when 57 staff spent a day on 17 May at their homes cleaning, installing curtains and buying lunch for them.

Said Best Denki staff, Mr Pang Thim Fah, “I particularly enjoyed spending time with the elderly. They reminded me of my grandparents. It was so nice to see them so happy and chatting away. We should do this more often.”

“TCS is glad to partner Best Denki in lending a helping hand to the less fortunate. By incorporating community work as part of its training programme, Best Denki has demonstrated the highest of corporate social responsibility. It shows that successful corporations like Best Denki can also excel in helping people,” said General Manager of TCS, Mr Simon Sim.
